Lyyra (the VOCES8 Foundation’s new upper voice ensemble) has a goal to sing a variety of styles and Blue Skies was arranged for them to touch on jazz and classical traditions. It includes a nod to jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald and American big band style. In addition to the Irving Berlin standard, it incorporates Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, which was also originally written to bridge the jazz and classical worlds. Lyyra’s recording of Blue Skies can be heard on their debut EP More Love (VOCES8 Records), available on all streaming platforms.
